Faculty Development Programs (FDPs)
Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) at our institution are designed to support the continuous professional growth of educators. These programs aim to enhance teaching methodologies, research capabilities, and subject knowledge, enabling faculty members to stay aligned with evolving academic and industry standards. Through interactive sessions, expert talks, and hands-on training, FDPs provide opportunities for faculty to collaborate, innovate, and integrate new learning techniques into the classroom. Our college is dedicated to empowering educators to deliver high-quality, impactful education.
Recognizing the evolving role of libraries in the digital age, our college organizes Librarian Development Programmes to empower library professionals with the latest skills, tools, and knowledge. These programs focus on enhancing information management, digital resource integration, cataloging techniques, and user engagement strategies. Through expert-led sessions, practical workshops, and peer learning, participants gain valuable insights into emerging trends in library science and technology. Our goal is to support librarians in becoming dynamic facilitators of learning and information, bridging the gap between traditional practices and modern academic needs.
One day National Librarian Development Programme was organised at SPB English Medium College of Commerce, Surat on Saturday, 6th October 2018. LDP started with a prayer, the inaugural function started by taking the blessings from Shri C S Jariwala, Chairman, Sarvajanik Education Society, Surat and Dr. Hemali Desai, Dean of Faculty of Arts and the Principal of ROFEL College, Vapi. The key note speaker at the function was the honourable General Secretary, MANLIBNET Dr. Akhtar Parvez, Chief Librarian Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad. Dr. V. D. Naik, Prinicipal, SPB College, Shri Bharatbhai Shah, Chairman of our College Local Administrative Committee brought grace to the dais and a well-meant vote of thanks by Dr. Heena Oza, chair person, IQAC made the inaugural function an enjoyable impetus. The number of participants was 52 and an agglomeration of librarians from school libraries, college libraries, technical institutions like ITI, Polytechnics, Medical colleges and local state and private universities. The active sessions started with Dr. S. K. Patil, former Chief Librarian SP Pune University, on “Open Access E Resources in Sciences and Social Sciences.” It was a worthy session as Dr. Patil discussed in detail the free and open access e- resources available. There was a decent amount of query about these E Resources. Second Session was taken up by Dr. Akhtar Parvez, Chief Librarian Maulana Azad National Urdu University on “Subscription of E Resources Issues and Challenges”. Real time issues like MOU, contract documents and Terms and conditions in the MOU etc were discussed in a dynamic manner. He also gave a piece of advice to the participant librarians to have a credit card in the name of the principal for making online payments. It was a very interactive session as many doubts of participants were unfolded. Third session by Dr. T.S. Kumbar, Chief Librarian IIT Gandhinagar, on “Predatory publishing” dealt with the risk of going into the hands of such publishers. The session focused on the working ways of such publishers with un- realistic or impractical impact factors and ISSNs and ISBNs and dubious international stature given to their publication. Role of UGC in removing and regularising the list of journals was also discussed. We authorized the Pearson Inc., to take up and demonstrate the “E- Book” concept, their procurement mode and the access issues in detail in the post lunch session. This is because of the fact that the e-books from Pearson’s were found to be popular among our students in their access and also content-wise. This also found to be a successful interaction section more than what expected. We at SPB were delighted to see the electrifying presence of some of the MANLIBNET office bearers at the LDP. At the conclusion session the participants’ feedback was sought. Active involvement of the participants and the energetic and friendly interactions from the resource persons made the day comprehensively creative and productive. I thoroughly thank the MANLIBNET in general and Dr. Mita Rathod in perticular especially for the help extended in organising the Librarian Development Programme at SPB. I thank profoundly our dynamic Principal Dr. V D Naik and the ever smiling and overwhelmingly supportive SPB Family for making this day in SPB chronicle. He stated that correlation quantifies the strength of the linear relationship between a pair of variables, whereas regression expresses the relationship in the form of an equation. He then highlighted the on the concept of correlation. He explained that correlation is a measure of association between two variables. The two most popular correlation coefficients are: Spearman’s correlation coefficient rho and Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient. When calculating a correlation coefficient for ordinal data, select Spearman’s technique. For interval or ratio-type data, use Pearson’s technique.
