SPB College has always shown great support and encouragement to help students shine not only in academics but cultural activities as well. Year 2018-2019 has been no exception. This year has been very eventful on cultural and social activities front. The college organized various activities, and participated in various inter-college events, University Youth Festival and also at state and national level competitions. The highlights of these activities are given hereunder:

  1. National Level Activities:

Our college DRAMA “MUD WALK” stood 1st at 63rd ALL INDIA DRAMA & DANCE COMPETITION organized by ALL INDIA ARTISTS ASSOCIATION. Miss Suhani Jagirdar got second position for “Best Supportive Actress” and Mr. Manav Joshi secured second position for “Best Actor”.

The drama team included our students namely: Suhani Jagirdar (2nd prize for best supporting Actress), Manav Joshi (2nd prize for best Actor), Yashvi Shah, Ritik Sharma, Tanmay Dhanik, Paras Nandha, Girish Solanki

  1. State Level Activities:

 

  • State Level Drama Workshop and Mono Acting Competition:

 

The College organized 2nd State level Drama Workshop and Mono Acting Competition on 17th January 2019. 71 students from different Colleges and Departments from various universities of the state participated in the drama workshop and 16 participated in mono acting competition.

 

The program commenced with the inauguration in the presence of distinguished Guests Hon’ble CA Rupin Pachchigar, Past Chairman of Sarvajanik Education Society and renowned Orator, CA Shri C.S. Jariwala- Chairman, Sarvajanik Education Society, Shri Bharatbhai Shah Chairman of LAC and Dr. David Paul, Director Physical Education, VNSGU. The programme was inaugerated with the lighting of lamp followed by Prayer song. Principal Dr. V.D. Naik welcomed the distinguished guests on the dais and off the dais along with the participants of the workshop. The Chief Guest CA Rupin Pachchigar addressed the participants with few of his life-long learning experiences in drama and theatre and motivated the participants to get the best from this workshop. Shri Bharatbhai Shah, Shri C.S. Jariwala and Dr. David Paul respectively delivered a speech to encourage the students. Other distinguished guests of the event were SPB Alumni Farzan Karanjia, who has made a big name in gujarati theatre and played the lead role in Gujarati Movie “Yashoda” and Girish Solanki renowned Drama Director. They both rendered their valuable services on the occasion as trainers for drama workshop and judges for the mono acting competition. The inaugural function came to an end with the vote of thanks by Dr. Heena S Oza followed by National Anthem.

 

Shri. Girish Solanki and Shri. Farzan Karanjia with their extraordinary talent and knowledge conducted the workshop, got the students involved in the basics of dramatics in a very interesting way. It was a great way to make students from different backgrounds interact with one another.  The workshop ended at 1:30 pm followed by lunch. Thereafter, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm Mono Acting Competition was held in which there were 16 participants from different colleges and departments from all over Gujarat.

 

The winners of the competitions were: Ms. Suhani Jagirdar (1st prize), Ms. Ridhdhi Adhvaryu and Ms. Dhwani Upadhyay (2nd prize), Mr. Ujjaval Jariwala and Mr. Vrushil Gohil (3rd prize), Mr. Divyang Solanki and Ms. Krishna Soni (CONSOLATION Prize )

The proud winners were awarded with the prizes. Shri. Girish Solanki and Shri Farzan Karanjia rendered their services as Judges for the competition.

 

  • GARBA Performance:

The students of the College were given an opportunity to showcase their Talent of Garba on DOORDARSHAN (DD Girnar) show “GARBO RAMTO JAAY” during Navaratri. The studends of college performed PRACHIN GARBO which was telecasted on TV channel DD Girnar on 12th October 2018.   • Patriotic Song Competition

As a part of Independence Day celebration, jointly with NSS unit of the College patriotic song competition has been organized on 13th August 2018. The students participated with zeal and enthusiasm.

  • Best Personality Contest (male with dress code of suit and female with dress code saree)

SPBians eagerly look forward for 31st December every year. On this day the campus throbs with young students clad in suits and sarees. On this day Mr. SPB and Ms. SPB titles are confered. However, this year the celebration took place on 31st January instead of 31st December.  In Male Category, Hiren Donga stood 1st, Abhishek Glasswala stood 2nd and Harshil Sukharam stood 3rd. Under female category, Kashish Tailor stood 1st, Jinal Vekhariya stood 2nd and Tanvi Baraiya stood 3rd.

 

The shining stars were invited on the stage and were awarded with the prizes. The Judges for the competition were Prof. Ruchika Pandya, Prof. Parasmani Jangid and Prof. Pankti Shah.

 

  • SPB FEST 2019

Annual function of our college, “SPB Fest 2019” was organized on 7th March at University Convention Hall.

Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Bhaskar Raval was the Chief Guest and Veteran drama artist Shri Yezdi Karanjia was the Guest of Honour. Shri C.S.Jariwala Chairman of Sarvajanik Education Society presided over the function. The prize winning performances of VNSGU Youth Festival were staged. These include one act play “RASIK” – 1st prize, Group Song – 3rd prize, Mono Acting by Manav Joshi – 3rd prize and Light Vocal Song by Nayana Chittilappilly – 1st prize at University Youth Festival.

Group dance competition has been another attraction of the function. This year 7 group took part in the competition. Four rounds of auditions taken by faculties made the stage performance of these dances of these of a high standard. ‘D.D.C Group’ stood 1st, ‘Zero Group’ stood 2nd and ‘Forever Group’ stood 3rd. Ms. Aayushi Desai and Ms. Palak Joshi renowned dance experts were the judges for the competition.

The programme was anchored by a team of students namely Akash Mehta, Yukta Dudhwala, Bhumika Parmar, Priyam Shah, Dolly Shah, Chinmayee Solanki, Mahaveer Rayaka, Divya Ramnani, Dev Makawana, Riya Bhojwani, Harshil Sukhramwala, Yashika Jain. Vote of thanks was given by General Secretary Mr. Raj Adani. Student volunteers also decorated the hall entrance with flower Rangoli. The Art Gallery exhibition was a new addition, and was well-appreciated as students got the opportunity to show case their fine arts talent.

The Cultural Committee extends special thanks to one and all who contributed directly or indirectly in making the year eventful and successful.
